This week we have been doing a lot of cleaning and organizing making new room for new things. We had our ECCO Presentation this week. I was so nervous at first but it turned out to be great expect for the fact we had to stand for like 3 hours! The ECCO Presentation helped me reflect on my time here. I can't believe it's been five weeks and 150 hours already! The Tech Store is officially finished! I think the Tech Store is my proudest accomplishment during my five weeks.
This week was really productive. I went back to Acorn Woodland and my group and I finished installing two classrooms which is about 10 computers! Then we got ice cream (Thanks Angel, Kemish, and Enrique)! I learned how to strip computers and it was challenging at first but it gets easier after a while. A group of us was assigned to remodel the Tech Store. The Tech Store is very important aspect to OTX and I'm glad that I get to help. We haven't finished yet but we have made significant progress. Thanks to our handy To Do List were on our way to finishing the store.
I went to Acorn Woodland Elementary. I got to unload the truck then deliver 5 computers, 5 keyboards, 5 mice, and 1 printer in each classroom. The kids were in the classroom and they would lookup and smile, excited that they would be able to go on computers. Its rewarding to know that were helping the digital divide. This week we had a retirement party for Bruce cooked by Chef Domingo. After going to the schools I appreciate Bruce's work even more and he deserves all the recognition he gets.
This week Domingo gave us a lesson on a computer program called Audacity and Photo Story. It was really cool and funny to see all the interns give Domingo suggestions on the story using random pictures. I got to make my own story it was called, "The Magical Koala". I got to make my computer, It was a long tedious process! You had to take the motherboard out of it's case then put it in another better case. But some times parts didn't work like my power supply I tired 2 power supply and it finally worked. It was worth all the struggle because how many get to say they built there own computers out of used parts.
Today marks the first week at OTX West. OTX is kinda different than what I expected, it's a big warehouse with everything ever technology related in it. We got a lesson from Matt telling us about different components that's inside of a computer and he told us that we were going to able to make our own computers and be able to take them home! I got to go to MLK Elementary with my team and Enrique. We had to clean the computer lab then reimage the computers. For lunch we got to McDonald's(thanks Enrique!!!). I learned how to sort different cables, mice, keyboards and how clean and test monitors.
I can tell that this internship is going to be fun and I'm to learn a lot of new things. |
